How to Save Your Water Ionizer from Hot Water

The electricity produced by an ionizer always generates a certain amount of heat. In order to cool down its internal, electrical components, ionizers must have cold source water to use as a coolant. Of course, no one ever intends to run scalding, hot water through their water ionizer - but it can happen. Fortunately, our ionizers are designed with a hot water sensor, which works like the temperature gauge in your car - if the engine gets too hot, the temperature gauge goes up and it's time to pull over and let your engine cool down.

Just as the dashboard on your car alarms you when your engine is overheating, the hot water sensor installed in your ionizer will alarm you with bells and flashing lights if its source water is hotter than 86°F. Also the ionizer will automatically power down but the hot water will continue to run through.

The alarm is your warning that damage to your ionizer is about to occur. If this happens, you can save your unit from a trip to the repair shop by following the process outlined below:
Start by turning off the source water. Then, power down the unit by turning off the main power switch located on the back of your machine. After getting your source water as cold as possible, open the flow control valve on the front of your unit as far as possible. While keeping the power turned off, let the cold water pass through your ionizer to cool down the cells inside. You should run the coldest possible tap water through the ionizer's system for several minutes. Once this is done, the unit should be allowed to rest. This will give it time to cool down completely and is the best way to prevent having to send it in for repairs.
If, after following the procedure above, the lights continue to flash on the ionizer, it will be necessary to contact Technical Services at 775-851-9451 option 5, or 800-875-9025 option 5, to begin the repair process.

IonLife and the 7-Plate Ionizer?

IonLife is currently testing out a 7-plate water ionizer that will allow those customers set on buying a 7 plate ionizer, to get one. Our 5 plate ionizers still continue to outperform the 7 and 9 plate ionizers out there, but we also understand the benefits from having a 7 plate for those customers who insist.

No other details have been announced except that if the water ionizer can pass IonLife’s rigorous performance tests and expectations, then we can see this new machine sometime in the next few months.

Neutralize Your Soda Drinking Habit with Alkaline Water

Do you drink soda each day? If so, you may be interested to know that your habit may be more damaging to your body than you think. If you drink sugary soda each day, you probably know about those extra empty calories to your diet and its effect on your teeth. However, you are not safe even if you drink diet soda.

Since soda is very acidic (whether diet or not), you can weaken the delicate alkaline/ acid balance in your body, resulting in such effects as loss of bone calcium, teeth decay and stomach and intestinal weakness. An over acidic diet over time has also been shown to be a major contributor to the so called "aging" diseases.

If you like soda and do not want to give it up entirely, you might consider reducing the amount you drink to one cup a day and gradually shifting to drinking more water. Since soda is so acidic, we recommend that you consider drinking alkaline water. Even if you choose to continue drinking a lot of soda, you can drink alkaline water right after drinking soda to help re-hydrate yourself and to neutralize the acidity of the soda. You will probably feel better, and you might experience less heartburn.

If you are new to the concept of alkaline water or ionized water, here is how it works. Tap water contains many ions. Some ions are desirable (like calcium, which is good for one`s teeth and bones) and some ions are less desirable- for example- chlorine (too much chlorine ions in your water will make your water smell and taste bad). Water ionizer helps removing the bad ions from the water while concentrating the essential alkalizing minerals, creates a strong alkaline water through electrolysis (without adding anything to water) plus creates a strong negative charge in the water ( making the water easier to absorb). The result is great tasting, healthy, water with no need to ever buy plastic bottled water again!

A Little Insight into pH

Most of those reading this article know all about alkaline water and its remarkable benefits to human health. And, when put in a position to do so, most of us can explain the benefits of alkalinity and the harmful effects of acidity inside the body. However, looking at the pH scale can present a challenge when it comes to accurately measuring pH and our ability to interpret those findings.

Let's begin with three definitions: alkalinity is the measurement of a substance's ability to neutralize acid; acidity is the ability of a substance to neutralize a base (or alkalinity), and pH is the concentration of hydrogen in a solution which determines whether that solution is acidic or alkaline.

pH literally means potential hydrogen. When a solution has a lot of hydrogen, it's acidic. When a solution has little hydrogen, it's alkaline. The lack of hydrogen creates a high pH value because "potential" is the measurement of how much more hydrogen can fit into a solution until it's at its maximum concentration. Hydrogen is very acidic. The pH value shows us the intensity levels of an acidic or alkaline condition of a solution and is measured on the pH scale.

The pH scale ranges in numbers from 1 to 14. A pH reading of one shows the most extreme measurement of acidity. A reading of seven on the pH scale is exactly neutral, and a reading of fourteen is extremely alkaline. The pH scale is logarithmic, meaning that it is measured in tenfold increments. A shift from 7 to 6 is ten times more acidic, a shift from 7 to 8 is ten times more alkaline. A shift from 7 to 9 is one hundred times more alkaline, from 7 to 10 one thousand times, and so forth. Now you can see the difference between drinking a soda pop with a pH of 3 as compared to drinking a glass of alkaline water with a pH of 9 - a huge difference, wouldn't you agree?

Dr. Peggy Parker and Alkaline, Ionized Water!

Dr. Parker is a traditionally trained Naturopathic Physician who resides in Spokane, Washington. She is an internationally renowned teacher and lecturer.

After receiving her Naturopathic degree, Dr. Parker continued her education with a post doctoral degree in Biological Medicine from the PBMN in Lustmühle, Switzerland. This intensive, two year program was designed and led by the famous Swiss physician, Dr. Thomas Rau.

For those of you who have not heard by now, IonLife and IonWays will be merging into one company, known as IonWays,. Below is a copy of the email that was sent out on June 7^th. We will keep you updated with new information and announcements as they become available! Until then, consider it “business as usual”!

For those of you who may not be aware, here is a brief company history on IonLife:

IonLife was formed in 2003 by David Forsyth & Sylvie Moonjay in Maui, Hawaii as a retailer and wholesaler of Emco Tech water ionizers. In 2005 Jay Hare joined the IonLife team and helped quintuple annual sales.

Then, in 2007, seeing the opportunity for selling ionizers via network marketing, IonWays launched.

Bottom line: The field asked, and corporate has responded!

Projects Green, a parter of Angels for a Cleaner Planet, are building a wind generator right here in Reno, Nevada! IonLife has contributed to this cause, as we feel very strongly about impacting the environment less and less. With their new WindJET technology, they are pushing forward with building a WindJET Farm.

The WindJET design works with nature. By using a wheel design with a solid ring on the outside supporting thousands of extremely light weight, aerodynamic blades on the inside, nature works with us by providing gyroscopic stability. The WindJET design is a giant, stable, gyroscope. It employs light weight spokes and cables that support the wings and rings in a radial pattern that makes the system more stable at speed utilizing gyroscopic stabilization like the front wheel of a motorcycle at speed. With the cables supporting the ring at hundreds of points around the circumference and the cables threaded directly through the wings, the system is designed to become tighter and more stable the faster the wind blows.

What is ORP? Part 3.

Testing the level of oxidant reduction potential (ORP) in water is very tricky business. There are all kinds of gadgets that can help, but the truth is that unless you really know what you're doing, it can be quite complicated. There are several ORP meters on the market priced from fairly affordable to insanely expensive. The sad fact is that no ORP meter, no matter how expensive, can accurately read the negative (-) ORP created by water ionizers.

The platinum electrodes used by ORP meters are just not made to read the negative charges and require a little coaxing to do so. The easiest way to do this is to purchase ORP electrode polishing strips. Use them before every test by scuffing the platinum on the ORP reader probe and then you can get a pretty good reading. The problem with this method is that it voids most manufacturer warrantees. The benefit is that it's the easiest way to get a good reading and is the fastest method of ORP meter conditioning available today.

Also, there are different conditioning solutions available on the market that can help oxidize the probes enough to get a more accurate, negative reading. These solutions will not void a warranty, but they're not user-friendly at all! We've found one that works great, but takes an hour to use. Starting with two chemical solutions and a glass of distilled water, you stir the probe in the first solution for one minute, rinse it in the distilled water, and then stir it again for five minutes in the second chemical solution. Easy enough to do, but these steps must be repeated about a dozen times to get the job done, and then a few times every week to keep the meter reading right! Also, once the probe tips have been oxidized, they can never be allowed to dry - not even for a few hours. If this happens, the probes are ruined and must be replaced.

As you can imagine, ORP is one of the greatest benefits of alkaline, ionized water. But ORP can be lost if the water is allowed to sit for any length of time while waiting for someone to drink it. To keep this amazing benefit for as long as possible, you can store the water in an air tight container; keep it cold, and in the dark. These conditions are true for all the benefits of alkaline, ionized water. But why? Because exposure to air gives our freshly-brewed electrons the chance to meet oxygen-gone-bad molecules that steal away its (-) ORP! When exposed to heat, the molecules move around faster - when this happens, they meet many more molecules at a quicker rate and get used up before we drink the water and experience their anti-oxidant benefits. Exposure to light has the same ruinous effect. So remember - keep your water cool, keep it stored tight, and don't let it sunburn!

ORP Explained, Part 2

In our last issue, we discussed the pesky free radical, and how we can combat them and their effects on health. In this issue, I will address how we can win the war against free radicals using an IonLife ionizer.

First, let's discuss how we can add negatively charged electrons to our drinking water using electrolysis. Electrolysis is the process in which an electrical current is used to separate the alkaline and acidic elements in tap water. It's important to know that all alkaline minerals and acidic elements have completely different polarities. We use these different polarities to our advantage in producing the healthiest water on Earth! Alkaline minerals have a positive, natural polarity and are called "cations." Acid elements have a negative polarity called "anions."

In nature, opposites attract. In alternating positive and negative currents, we can persuade these two very different elements into different directions, resulting in two streams of water with completely different properties. Cationic, positively charged, alkaline minerals are drawn to the negatively charged electrode. This enables the ionizer to add the needed electrons for the oxidation reduction to take place. As the alkaline minerals are drawn to and are passing by the negative electrode, they have the opportunity to "pick-up" and carry negative electrons into our water creating its amazing anti-oxidant properties!

C-crest Laboratories in Montreal test results

Although declining to state which bottled waters were tested, C-crest Laboratories recently conducted testing that determined that several popular brands of bottled water contained high amounts of heterotrophic bacteria.

According to the United States Phamacopeia (USP) no more than 500 colony forming units (cfu) of bacteria per milliliter should be present in drinking water. This study says that 70% of the brands tested exceeded that amount, and actually contained more bacteria than tap water.

Warranty Reminder

Remember that our warranty covers problems with the ionizers due to manufacturing defect, and does not cover damage caused by poor source water or environmental concerns. We recommend the EOS Anti Scaling Device for all customers in hard water areas to prevent damage to the internal components of the machines. If you have questions about the water in your area and you are on a municipal water source, you can receive a consumer confidence report from your local water agency and our Technicians would be more than happy to take a look at it and determine and any water issues.

ORP, or oxidation reduction potential, is the actual measurement of electrons in the oxygen and is measured as millivolts, either plus (+) or minus (-). A positive ORP reading is showing the oxidizing properties of the oxygen; a negative ORP reading is showing the anti-oxidant potential.

Many people don't truly understand what a free radical (or oxidant) is, so let's take a quick look and find out. A free radical is, simply, oxygen molecules gone bad. Molecules, like teenagers, are always moving in and out of new groups with constant break-up and make-ups. They bind together by sharing electrons, but when a weak bond is formed and two oxygen molecules go their different directions, the shared electron is destroyed and disappears. When this happens, a free radical is born. This free radical will seek out other healthy oxygen molecules and, in an attempt to right itself and resume stability, it tries to steal back the electron - but this doesn't happen. Instead, the electron shared with the free radical is destroyed and two free radicals have been born. These "bad" molecules are creating a chain reaction, one in which many molecules become free radicals. Because so many healthy oxygen molecules are lost, this chain reaction is harmful to health at a cellular level. This is why anti-oxidants are so important to the human body and its ability to maintain wellness.

It's the process of oxidation that causes a nail to rust, an apple to turn brown, and most other forms of decay and premature aging.

The electrons of oxygen molecules like to stay in pairs and always in even numbers. When a free radical comes along and destroys one of the healthy molecules' electrons, the odd number of electrons create the need for the "broken" molecule to seek out an electron in order to right itself.

Now that we know how a free radical causes the reaction known as oxidation, let's take a look at how an anti-oxidant works. The anti-oxidant is an oxygen molecule that has an abundance of negatively charged electrons; this is measured as negative (-) ORP. These anti-oxidants have the ability to lend the missing electron to the free radical and turn it back to a healthy oxygen molecule. Through the process of electrolysis, we can create these anti-oxidant, negatively charged, electron rich, and healthy oxygen molecules from everyday tap water.

Dear IonLife,

Firstly Brianna and I would like to say a really warm thank you and IonLife for your generous donation to our project – it just about doubled what we had raised so far, so it was no small sum.

Just to give you a quick outline of our work – a few months ago we were given the amazing opportunity of designing information signboards for the Adolpho Ducke Botanical Gardens of Manaus.

These gardens are inside a 100 km² ecological reserve in the middle of the Amazon and contain a huge number of plant and animal species. The staff has wanted to install signboards in different languages for 10 years but due to lack of funding this has never come to fruition.

These large ego-diverse gardens have so much potential because of how easily the outside world can access them through the city of Manaus and its international airport. The easier and faster outsiders can see how important the Amazon is to the world the greater the opposition will be to the continued large scale destruction of the Amazon jungle for agriculture and mining. At the moment these gardens are tragically under-utilized because the few guides that are there only do tours occasionally and do not speak English.

Our project is designing a number of educational signboards throughout the trails, and thus opening people’s eyes to the biodiversity, forest functions and plant-insect interactions around them in the forest. We’re writing signs in both English and Portuguese so that both locals and international visitors will be attracted to the gardens.

The response to our fundraising that we’ve received has been such an inspiration in our work. To realize how much support we have and to see how generously people offer money for a good cause like this has been wonderful. It has also meant that by raising our own funds we make ourselves completely independent of the lengthy and uncertain process of applying for government funding.

Biostone Plus vs .01M Ultra Biostone – Which one do I need?

Every day the Technical Department runs into people who really don’t know the difference between the .1M Biostone Plus and .01M Ultra Biostone, and therefore could possibly be purchasing the wrong one for their water conditions. First of all, it is interesting to put a micron into perspective. A micron is a unit of measure equivalent to 1/25,000 of an inch. Our .01 micron filter provides filtration down to 1 /2,500,000 of an inch!

The primary benefit of the .01 micron filter is for bacterial and viral protection. Typically, municipal tap water is void of these contaminants because high concentrations of chlorine (or chloramines) are used for disinfection purposes. Someone on a well may be more likely to need this level of filtration due to an increased potential for bacterial or viral contamination, and reduced disinfection capabilities/reliability when compared to municipal supplies. The .01M is effective at helping to remove chlorine and many other contaminants, but is not effective at removing chloramines. Also the .01M, which uses the finest fibers to trap micro-organisms, does not contain as much carbon as the .1M Biostone Plus.

The new Biostone Plus filter is specifically formulated using Catalytic Carbon to address the chlorine and chloramines issues that people encounter on a city or municipal water source. For that reason, it is recommended to use just the Biostone Plus with a city or municipal water source – especially if treated with chloramines instead of chlorine. Like the .01M Ultra Biostone, the Biostone Plus is also effective at helping to remove other water contaminants.

It is also important that our water ionizers are not meant to be used with unsafe water. If using well or untreated water it is necessary to have a water test done and then send us the results so we can advise of any further filtration needs. This will help protect your ionizer as well as your health and warranty!

Finally – although the filters in Jupiter ionizers are the best ionizer filters in the market, they are still general filters. If you have an unusually high amount of any contaminant then you may wish to advise your customer to also get a specialty pre-filter installed under the counter. IonLife has a full range of specialty pre-filters available and staff that are trained to help you with your filter needs.

Earth Day is coming up on April 22^nd, and we would like to share some tips with you for helping conserve our environment:

-Take shorter showers and skip baths. A 5 minute shower takes 15-25 gallons of water, rather than 40 gallons used to take a bath.

-Grass and leaves can be turned into compost instead of trash.

-Laptops can save almost 50% more energy than their desktop counterparts.

-Recycling an aluminum can uses 95% less energy than making a can from new materials.

-Prevent 300 pounds of CO2 every year by buying fluorescent light bulbs.

-Wear organic fabrics like cotton and linen that are less harmful to the environment and are better for your skin.

Pets and Alkaline Water

Don’t forget that it is perfectly safe to give Fido or Felix alkaline water to drink. Just remember that the rule is the same with humans: always start them at a lower pH and gradually work them higher. If you notice your pets having any signs of detoxing, you can always go back down a level.

An Alternative Theory on Bone Health

The science of osteoporosis and its resultant fractures has long been plagued by some vexing observations. Why, for example, are osteoporotic fractures relatively rare in Asian countries like Japan, where people live as long or longer than Americans and consume almost no calcium-rich dairy products?

Why, in Western countries that consume the most dairy foods, are rates of osteoporotic fractures among the highest in the world? And why has no consistent link been found between the amount of calcium people consume and protection against osteoporosis?

An alternative theory of bone health may — or may not — explain these apparent contradictions. It is the theory of low-acid eating, a diet laden with fruits and vegetables but relatively low in acid-producing protein and moderate in cereal grains. Its proponents suggest that this menu plan could lead to stronger bones than the typical American diet rich in dairy products and animal protein, often enhanced by calcium supplements.

Warranty Clarifications

Lately there have been some miss-understandings about our new Limited Lifetime Warranty. In order to clarify those, we wanted to address them all at once.

The Jupiter Science warranty provides five (5) years parts and labor, from purchase date, with FREE shipping from anywhere in the USA. (Please note that if sending an ionizer in for repair from outside the USA, the customer needs to pay for all shipping costs).

Then, after 5 years from the purchase date, the customer is responsible to pay for the shipping and labor costs, while IonLife pays for all replacement parts. After 5 years from purchase there is also a guaranteed maximum of $195 on the most expensive repair. The warranty does not cover repairs caused by customer neglect or by failure to stop the build-up of calcium in hard water areas. This new policy applies to ionizers purchased after September 2009, except the Ultra Technos which has a one (1) year warranty.

Unauthorized Returns Will No Longer be Accepted

Effective November 15th, 2009 any unit returned for repair or refund MUST first have an RMA number, and have the RMA number written on the outside of the box, or it will be considered unauthorized and refused.

Any customer return should go through you, the dealer, and it is your responsibility to contact us within the 60 day policy to obtain the RMA number if you wish to return the unit to us. Again, any package without an RMA number on the outside of the box will be considered unauthorized and refused.*

Maharishi: Yes, it can be prolonged indefinitely. If it is held for very long time, the body will become alkaline. Because, not to decay is the quality of an alkaline body. And as long as the individual mind gets to that universal consciousness, the body has to be intact.. In order that it remains intact, it becomes alkaline.

If the body is acidic, more of acid in the system, then the oxygen going in becomes carbon dioxide. If the body is acidic, more carbon dioxide is produced. To throw it out, the exhalations become deeper, heavier. When the exhalations become heavier, inhalations become correspondingly heavier also. So the breath flows heavy when the system is acidic.

Discontinued – JP-108 Aquarius and Phresh Pitcher

In an effort to continually have room for new products, we will be discontinuing the JP-108 Aquarius. Warranty will not be affected by this change. The Aquarius is identical to the Orion in terms of technology and performance, although the Orion is the more popular model due to its visual appeal. The Aquarius will be made available as a private label ionizer.

With the arrival of the AOK Travel Ionizer last month, we have also chosen to discontinue the Phresh Pitcher. The AOK is far superior in terms of performance and ease of use and is already proving to be very popular. We will continue to carry replacement filters for the Phresh.

Alkaline Grapfruit

A substance in grapefruit just may prove to be the key to reversing acidity that leads to obesity and diabetes.

The substance, a flavonoid called "naringenin," is a naturally occurring alkaline compound in all citrus fruit, but especially in grapefruit, giving it its characteristic bitter taste.
Naringenin, found naturally in grapefruit, detoxes the liver and causes fat to be released instead of storing it, according to a study by Roberts Research Institute at the University of Western Ontario.

The study used two groups of mice that were fed a typical Western high-fat diet, a diet known to induce symptoms of metabolic syndrome, including obesity and diabetes. One group's diet, however, was treated with the alkaline compound found in grapefruit - naringenin.

The researchers found that the naringenin lowered elevations in tryclycerides and cholesterol, prevented the onset of insulin resistance, and otherwise normalized the metabolism of insulin. Also, the naringenin completely reprogrammed the livers of the mice so that excess fat was released rather than stored.

The "marked obesity that develops in these mice was completely prevented by naringenin," said study leader Murray Huff. "What was unique about the study was that the effects were independent of caloric intake, meaning the mice ate exactly the same amount of food and the same amount of fat.

There was no suppression of appetite or decreased food intake, which are often the basis of strategies to reduce weight gain and its metabolic consequences."
